The Story Behind the Scent

Marc Jacobs fronted the campaign for Bang himself, and the whole concept was built around impact, from the crushed metal bottle to the punchy opening. The scent leads with an unusual amount of pepper, three kinds layered together, which made it stand out sharply from the fresh and sweet men’s releases around it at the time.

Underneath the spice, it is actually quite warm and smooth. Vetiver and patchouli give a woody, slightly earthy heart, and a base of benzoin, white musk and oakmoss adds a resinous warmth that softens the pepper as it dries. It reads bold but wearable, a distinctive woody spicy scent that gained a cult following, which its discontinuation only strengthened. Our version follows the same peppery arc.

How it Smells
