Beyond Paradise, inspired by Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise (2003)

Grapefruit, lemon and bergamot give a zesty start, but hyacinth and orange blossom quickly make it floral and green. The heart is dense and humid, with jasmine, gardenia, honeysuckle and orchid layered so that no single flower dominates. The usual comparison is a greenhouse or a rainforest after rain. The base is quieter, built on hibiscus, plum wood, ambrette (a musky seed note) and amber.

About the original

Calice Becker composed Beyond Paradise for Estée Lauder in 2003, and it was first sold in a rainbow-coloured teardrop bottle. That bottle was later replaced by a plain rectangular one, and some wearers feel later bottles smelled different from early ones. A men's version followed in 2004, along with flankers such as Beyond Paradise Blue and two summer editions. The women's original no longer appears on Estée Lauder's website or at major European retailers, and wearers say it was discontinued after the bottle change.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Estée Lauder stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of big white florals will feel at home here. It is lush rather than heavy, though the heady jasmine and gardenia can feel dense in a closed room. Fans of dry woods or powder will likely find it too green and floral.

It is no longer listed on Estée Lauder's website or by major European retailers, and wearers say it was withdrawn. We found no public statement from the brand.

Is this the women's or the men's Beyond Paradise?

The women's original from 2003. Beyond Paradise for Men (2004) is a different fragrance.

Does it smell tropical?

In a floral sense, yes. It evokes humid greenery and white flowers rather than coconut or fruit.

Is Estée Lauder Beyond Paradise coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Estée Lauder that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
