Tresor Midnight Rose

Tresor Midnight Rose, inspired by Lancôme Trésor Midnight Rose (2011)

Raspberry and rose arrive together, and blackcurrant bud quickly takes over with a tangy, almost cordial-like note. Pink pepper adds fizz while peony and jasmine stay in the background. Virginia cedar then gives the fruit a dry, sharp-sweet woodiness, softened by musk and a small amount of vanilla. Overall it is fruity and woody far more than powdery.

About the original

Lancôme launched Trésor Midnight Rose in September 2011, a year after Trésor In Love, with Emma Watson photographed by Mario Testino in Paris for the campaign. Anne Flipo is credited with the composition. It bears little resemblance to the peachy rose of the 1990 Trésor, with berries and cedar taking the place of the peach. It came in a purple version of the Trésor bottle and is still part of Lancôme's range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Lancôme stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers who enjoy fruit in perfume but want wood under it rather than sugar tend to get on well with it. The blackcurrant is prominent and rather candied, which not everyone enjoys. Nothing about it is heavy, and the vanilla stays in the background.

Raspberry and rose absolute open it, quickly joined by a tart blackcurrant note.

Pink pepper gives the heart some sparkle, and peony and jasmine are tightly blended into the fruit rather than standing apart.

Virginia cedar shapes the drydown, with musk and only a little vanilla.

How is Midnight Rose different from the original Trésor?

The 1990 Trésor is a polished, peachy rose. Midnight Rose swaps that for raspberry, blackcurrant and cedar, so it feels fruitier and woodier.

Is it part of La Nuit Trésor?

No. La Nuit Trésor is a separate line launched in 2015. Midnight Rose is a 2011 flanker of the original Trésor.

Is Trésor Midnight Rose very sweet?

The blackcurrant has a candied edge, but the vanilla is light and the cedar keeps the finish fairly dry.
