English Oak & Redcurrant, inspired by Jo Malone London English Oak & Redcurrant Cologne (2017)

Redcurrant opens with a sour, glossy fruitiness that makes the mouth water. A light rose sits behind it, more petal than perfume. The base is roasted oak absolute, which reads as toasted, dry wood. The balance stays sheer and fruity rather than woody and heavy, and the scent settles into a quiet fruity musk on skin.

About the original

English Oak & Redcurrant launched in September 2017 as one half of Jo Malone London's English Oak collection, next to English Oak & Hazelnut. It is credited to perfumer Yann Vasnier. Press at the time reported it would join the permanent line. The cologne no longer appears in the brand's official cologne listings, although an English Oak & Redcurrant candle may still be found. English Oak & Hazelnut is still sold.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Fruit without sugar and wood without heaviness is what it offers; the brand released it in autumn. Its sour opening is the defining moment, which may not appeal to someone who prefers rounder, sweeter fruit.
