Japon Noir

Japon Noir, inspired by Tom Ford Japon Noir (2007)

Spice comes first, quickly warming into patchouli and a port-wine accord with a sweet, fermented richness. Night-blooming jasmine adds an indolic floral depth in the heart. Leather and amber then give the base a smooth, slightly animalic warmth, while vetiver adds a dry, earthy finish.

About the original

Japon Noir was one of the twelve fragrances with which Tom Ford launched the Private Blend collection in March 2007. The launch copy described a spiced opening that warms into patchouli and a 'Porto Noir' accord, deepened by jasmine, leather, amber and vetiver. It no longer appears on Tom Ford's US or UK sites. Despite the similar name, Plum Japonais (2010) is a separate Private Blend scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Darkness is its defining quality: boozy port, leather and patchouli rather than anything fresh or airy. It reads as unisex. Fans of light citrus or clean musks may find it heavy.

It is no longer listed by Tom Ford, and fragrance references class it as a discontinued Private Blend.

Is Japon Noir the same as Plum Japonais?

No. Japon Noir dates from 2007, while Plum Japonais is a separate Private Blend scent from 2010. We also make a scent inspired by Plum Japonais.

Is Tom Ford Japon Noir coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Tom Ford that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
