Manifesto L'Elixir, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto L'Elixir (2013)

Citrus is only a prelude here: bergamot and mandarin flash past before jasmine sambac and tuberose take over. Heliotrope, a flower with an almond-and-powder scent, gives the heart its cosmetic, gently sweet texture. From there the composition sinks into vanilla and cashmere wood, with ambroxan, a smooth ambery material with a faintly salty glow. It is denser than the original Manifesto without turning into a dessert scent.

About the original

Manifesto L'Elixir reached shops in September 2013 as the first flanker of Manifesto, which YSL had launched the year before. Sold as an Eau de Parfum Intense, it was positioned as a more sensual, vanilla-heavy reading of the original, and its campaign starred Jessica Chastain. Manifesto L'Eclat (2014) and Manifesto Le Parfum (2015) are separate scents. YSL's official sites in France, Germany, Italy and the UK no longer list it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Yves Saint Laurent stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its texture is plush and powdery, closer to cashmere than to crisp cotton. Vanilla and heliotrope make it sweet, and the tuberose adds a heady note, so buyers after freshness should look at something else.

Bergamot and mandarin give a short, tart start.

Jasmine sambac and tuberose absolute form a full white floral heart, with heliotrope adding its almond-tinged powderiness.

The drydown is vanilla on cashmere wood, with ambroxan giving a clean, ambery finish.

Is Manifesto L'Elixir discontinued?

It no longer appears on YSL's official sites in France, Germany, Italy or the UK, and we found no official announcement of its withdrawal.

How does L'Elixir differ from the original Manifesto?

It is the richer, vanilla-led version, sold as an Eau de Parfum Intense. We also make the original Manifesto from 2012.

Is it very sweet?

It is sweet in a powdery way, from vanilla and heliotrope rather than fruit or sugar notes.

Is Yves Saint Laurent Manifesto L'Elixir coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Yves Saint Laurent that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
