A Goodnight Kiss, inspired by Roja Parfums A Goodnight Kiss (2015)

Aldehydes give the start a fizzy, slightly soapy sparkle, the effect behind many classic French perfumes. Rose and jasmine come through quickly, with orange blossom, ylang-ylang and violet filling out a full floral heart. Carnation and clove add a gentle spice. The base turns to powder: orris and a rice-powder accord, rounded with musk and a little leather.

About the original

Roja Dove composed A Goodnight Kiss, and perfume databases date its release to 2015. Roja describes it as nostalgic, vintage in spirit and sparkling. The house sells it as a parfum and does not assign it a gender, although it is usually listed as a women's floral. It remains on sale with Roja and at Harrods.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Roja Parfums (Roja Dove) stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its character is dressed-up and retro, rich and powdery, and the aldehydes can read as soapy or old-fashioned on first spray. Admirers of modern fruity florals may find it too formal.

Is A Goodnight Kiss a women's fragrance?

Roja does not gender it, but it is usually classed as a women's oriental floral. Its powdery, aldehydic style suits anyone who enjoys vintage florals.

What do aldehydes smell like?

Clean and sparkling, a little like fresh linen or the fizz on a glass of champagne. They give the opening its retro lift.
