Twilight Shimmer, inspired by Michael Kors Twilight Shimmer (2018)

Fruit arrives first and in quantity: red berries and darker, violet-toned fruits that give the start a jammy density. Praline follows, adding the taste of caramelised nuts without tipping into pure dessert. Underneath sits oud, the resin-soaked agarwood that smells smoky and faintly medicinal, and it gives the sweetness a spine. Smooth woods sit under the drydown alongside the plum and nut notes.

About the original

Michael Kors released Twilight Shimmer in June 2018 as a limited edition eau de parfum. It was the second of the night-themed Shimmer series, after Midnight Shimmer (2016) and before Starlight Shimmer (2019), and each of those is a separate composition. The launch material framed it as an opulent scent for going out at night. No perfumer was named, and the limited run is no longer made.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Michael Kors stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Someone reaching for a scent to wear out after dark will find this fits the brief the brand set for it. Its profile is sweet and dense rather than airy. The oud gives a smoky, woody edge that can surprise people expecting a simple fruity gourmand.

Praline takes over as the fruit relaxes, nutty and caramel-sweet, with smooth woods filling out the middle.

Plum and oud carry the base: dark fruit against a smoky, resinous wood.

Is Michael Kors Twilight Shimmer discontinued?

It was a limited edition released in 2018 and is no longer produced. Michael Kors does not list it in its current fragrance range.

Is this Twilight Shimmer or Midnight Shimmer?

Twilight Shimmer, the 2018 edition. Midnight Shimmer (2016) and Starlight Shimmer (2019) belong to the same series but smell different.

How sweet is it?

Clearly sweet, from the fruit and the praline, though the oud and woods keep the base from feeling sugary.

Is Michael Kors Twilight Shimmer coming back?

It was a limited edition. So far, we have found no announcement from Michael Kors about a re-release. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
