Lui/Il/He/El (Emporio), inspired by Emporio Armani Lui / Il / He / Él (1998)

Citrus leads: yuzu, lemon, mandarin and bergamot, with apple and pineapple adding a little fruit and sage a herbal note. Cardamom brings a cool spice to the top. The heart turns powdery as orris root, the dried iris rhizome with a lipstick-like softness, joins nutmeg, cyclamen, jasmine and rose. Sandalwood, cedar, oakmoss and musk form a slightly austere base, with tonka and amber adding gentle sweetness.

About the original

Emporio Armani launched it in 1998 as its men's fragrance, with a label printed in several languages (lui, il, he, él); the women's counterpart was Emporio Armani Lei / She. Sources disagree on the perfumer, so we do not name one. Around 2020 it was re-released as Emporio Armani He, now in an anthracite metallic bottle, and opinions differ on whether the formula changed. Armani's current key notes are shorter: yuzu, cardamom, white musk and vetiver.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Emporio Armani (Giorgio Armani Beauty) stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Restraint defines it, with citrus and orris powder taking the place of heavy sweetness. It feels tidy and composed from start to finish. The orris heart gives a cosmetic, slightly lipstick-like powder that not everyone enjoys in a men's scent.

Lui was the 1998 original, named after its multilingual label. Armani re-released it around 2020 as Emporio Armani He, and this page is based on the 1998 composition.

Is the current Emporio Armani He the same as the 1998 Lui?

Opinions differ. Armani lists simplified notes for the current He, and some wearers feel it differs from the 1998 version.
