The Brilliant Game, inspired by Davidoff The Brilliant Game (2014)

The Brilliant Game opens like an Americano being poured: bittersweet Campari, herbal vermouth, bitter orange and lemon, with red berries for colour. Clary sage adds a musky, herbal tone to the mix. Cedar and orange blossom form a brief, dry middle. From there it slides into caramel, tonka and coumarin, and the hay note gives that sweetness a dried-grass texture.

About the original

Davidoff launched The Brilliant Game in autumn 2014 as a flanker of The Game (2010), with Jacques Huclier usually credited as perfumer. It is a different fragrance from The Game and from other flankers such as The Game Intense. The bottle carries gold details that reference poker chips, and it was sold as an eau de toilette in 40, 60 and 100 ml. It is classed as an oriental woody, and its base is noticeably sweet.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Davidoff stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweetness is the deciding factor here. Fans of caramel and tonka will enjoy how the bitter Campari opening sets it up, while men who prefer dry, woody or citrus scents may find the base too sugary.

Fairly sweet once the opening fades. Caramel, tonka and coumarin dominate the base.
