Ani

Ani, inspired by Nishane Ani (2019)

Ani opens with a burst of ginger, bergamot and pink pepper, tingling over a green edge. Blackcurrant, Turkish rose and cardamom give the heart a jammy, spiced quality. Vanilla soon takes charge, supported by benzoin, ambergris, sandalwood and cedar, and this balsamic base is where the scent spends most of its time. Sweet but not cloying, it keeps a thread of spice to the end.

About the original

Cécile Zarokian composed Ani for Nishane, and it debuted at Esxence in 2019. The name comes from the ancient city of Ani, whose ruins are on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and the brand says it was inspired by an Anatolian folk song. It was dedicated to the memory of Cem Karabacak, a friend of the founders. Nishane sells it as an Extrait de Parfum, and a later flanker, Ani X, is a separate scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nishane stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Vanilla is the main event, so it rewards wearers who like a comforting, sweet base. The ginger keeps the start lively. Lovers of dry or green scents will probably find the drydown too sweet.

Nishane sells Ani as an Extrait de Parfum, and that is the reference here. Ours is an eau de parfum, 50 or 100 ml.

Is this Ani or Ani X?

The original Ani from 2019. Ani X is a later, separate flanker.

How sweet is Ani?

Noticeably, as vanilla leads the drydown, but ginger and cardamom keep it from turning sugary.
