Attrape Reves, inspired by Louis Vuitton Attrape-Rêves (2018)

Contrast is the idea behind Attrape-Rêves: a fresh peony set against the dusty bitterness of cocoa powder. Lychee comes first, juicy and a little rosy, and keeps the start lively. Patchouli lies beneath and gives the cocoa an earthy, dark-chocolate depth, so the scent reads richer than a typical fruity floral.

About the original

Attrape-Rêves, French for 'dreamcatcher', arrived in September 2018 as a women's eau de parfum by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, with Emma Stone fronting the campaign. Launch coverage called it 'jubilant and sensual' and gave a longer note list than LV uses today, adding ginger, bergamot, rose and an African cocoa flower. LV's official key notes are cocoa, a peony accord and a lychee accord, and the scent is still sold.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Louis Vuitton stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its appeal lies in the cocoa: someone who enjoys chocolate or patchouli in perfume will find it more interesting than a straight peony scent. The cocoa and patchouli base may feel too dense to a wearer after an airy, transparent floral.

Lychee and peony open it, fruity and fresh, with ginger and bergamot also named in the launch notes.

Cocoa powder arrives early and stays, dry and slightly bitter against the flowers. Rose appears in the 2018 note list as well.

Patchouli holds the base, earthy and shadowy, keeping the cocoa in place as the fruit fades.

Does Attrape-Rêves smell of chocolate?

Partly. LV pairs peony with raw cocoa powder, which comes across dry and bitter rather than like milk chocolate, over a patchouli heart.
