Fantomas, inspired by Nasomatto Fantomas (2020)

Fantomas opens on thick, sweet melon, then pulls it somewhere strange. Fragrance references list rubber, plastic, smoke and gunpowder beside the fruit, giving the feel of a sweet left near something industrial. Cashmeran, a musky-woody material often compared to the smell of cashmere, holds the base together with patchouli and earthy notes. Caramel and tropical fruit keep the sweetness going, so it never turns purely dark.

About the original

Released in 2020, Fantomas takes its name from the French fictional crime antihero, according to one retailer, which also calls it playful yet unsettling. Alessandro Gualtieri composed it for Nasomatto. The cap is walnut wood inside a thin metal casing with four reflective sides. As with the rest of the range, the brand gives no notes, so the list here reflects fragrance references.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nasomatto stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Playfulness is its strong suit, but the plastic and rubber notes are clearly part of the picture rather than background. A buyer hoping for a straightforward fruity scent may find those synthetic facets off-putting.
