Shards Of Cedar & Red Thyme, inspired by Jo Loves Shards of Cedar & Red Thyme (2014)

Mint and bergamot give it a cool, brisk start, with lavender close behind adding an aromatic, slightly floral note. Nutmeg brings a dry spice, and vetiver and patchouli lay down an earthy, woody base. The name promises cedar and red thyme, but the published note lists do not name them, so the woodiness here comes mainly from vetiver and patchouli. Launch press called it warm, sharp and sophisticated.

About the original

Jo Loves, the separate house Jo Malone set up in 2011 after leaving Jo Malone London, launched Shards of Cedar & Red Thyme on 1 October 2014 in 30 ml and 100 ml. Retailers and databases list it as an eau de toilette, although the brand has not confirmed the concentration. Launch coverage compared it to a classic men's cologne, which set it apart from the rest of the Jo Loves range. It has no connection to Jo Malone London's own colognes.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Loves stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lavender and mint make it read as traditional and clean, which suits men and women who like classic herbal colognes. With no fruit or vanilla in the notes, fans of sweeter or gourmand scents may find it too dry.
