Blamage, inspired by Nasomatto Blamage (2014)

Birch tar gives Blamage its smoke: the dark, tarry smell traditionally used to scent Russian leather. Here it sits over leather, musk and white woods, so the smoke feels more diffuse than in a heavy tar leather. One retailer points out metallic and animalic accents, plus a fleeting green-apple impression. The result is smoky and faintly powdery, with a strange, deliberate coolness.

About the original

Blamage arrived in 2014 and, according to a review blog, was presented at launch as the final Nasomatto; Baraonda followed two years later. The brand calls it 'an unwise and unfortunate creation caused by bad judgement and care'. Alessandro Gualtieri is its creator. Each cap is white-lacquered hazelwood, varying slightly in form and size, and the notes listed here come from fragrance references, as the house shares none.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Nasomatto stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Leather lovers who find classic leathers too heavy are the obvious match. The tarry smoke never really leaves, so it will not please a buyer hoping for sweetness or freshness.

How smoky is Blamage?

Smoke is its main theme, from birch tar documented alongside leather. Musk and white woods beneath it keep the smoke lighter and more diffuse than in a dense tar leather.

Was Blamage really the last Nasomatto?

It was presented that way at launch, according to a review of the brand. Nasomatto went on to release Baraonda in 2016, Nudiflorum in 2018 and Fantomas in 2020.
