Matsukita, inspired by Clive Christian Matsukita (2021)

Green bergamot opens it with a tart, unripe citrus, while pink pepper and nutmeg add spice. Two jasmines, Chinese jasmine and jasmine sambac, fill the heart, given a smoky edge by mate tea and the dry woodiness of guaiac wood oil. Fir balsam lends a resinous, forest-like depth to the base, and amber and musks keep it smooth. The house frames it as a woody floral chypre.

About the original

Clive Christian relaunched Matsukita in its Crown Collection in 2021. According to the brand, the original was released by the Crown Perfumery in 1892 and has now been reimagined. The house highlights its complexity, citing 252 ingredients, and links it to the story of a Japanese princess. It is sold in 50 ml at 25% concentration.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Clive Christian stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Chypre lovers who prefer smoke and resin to sweetness are its natural audience. It suits someone who enjoys a dense, many-layered composition. Those after a clean, simple floral may find it too complex and dark.
