Blackcurrant liquor gives it a dark, boozy-fruity start, sharpened by bergamot and pink pepper. Rose from Isparta in Turkey and geranium form the heart, with davana, a herb whose oil smells of dried fruit and a little alcohol, deepening the berry tone. The chypre structure shows in the base: patchouli, vetiver and a moss accord, earthy rather than sweet, with musks underneath. Chypre is the classic family that pairs citrus top notes with a mossy, woody base.

About the original

Maison Margiela announced On a Date in December 2022, and the retail launch appears to have followed in early 2023, although some sources give 2022. The memory label is 'Provence, 2014', and the house frames it around a late-summer evening date in the south of France, classing it as a fruity chypre. Carlos Benaïm is usually credited with the formula.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Maison Margiela stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Romantic by design, it is meant for evenings, and the brand ties it to late summer. The fruit is jammy, but moss and patchouli keep it grown-up. Patchouli is noticeable in the drydown, which may not suit someone looking for a clean, fresh rose.
