Oud Ispahan launched in 2012 as one of Dior’s most celebrated additions to La Collection Privée, composed by Francois Demachy. The brief was a sumptuous rose oud built around Turkish damascena rose and real Laotian oud, with patchouli, frankincense, labdanum and sandalwood building the resinous Middle Eastern character. The name references the ancient Persian city of Ispahan (Isfahan), historically associated with the finest roses and the great Persian perfumery tradition. The composition became one of Demachy’s most loved creations and remains one of the bestsellers in the niche Dior line. Our interpretation respects the rich oriental character.

How It Smells

The opening is rich and slightly spicy, Turkish damascena rose leading immediately with its deep jammy floral character, supported by a quiet warm spice nuance through the early phase. Within ten minutes the oud emerges and dominates the rest of the composition: agarwood gives its trademark dark woody resinous depth, balanced by patchouli grounding the composition with earthy polish and frankincense contributing smoky resinous warmth. The base is where Oud Ispahan earns its luxury reputation. Labdanum wraps the drydown in balsamic warm depth, sandalwood adds creamy wood structure, and a quiet musk smooths the composition.
