Oud Satin Mood

Oud Satin Mood, inspired by Maison Francis Kurkdjian OUD satin mood (2015)

Violet opens it with a cool, powdery sweetness before Damascena rose arrives, round and slightly jammy. Oud sits beneath the flowers rather than in front of them, polished and woody with no rough or animalic edge. The base is a vanilla amber accord with benzoin, a balsamic resin with a vanilla-like, faintly smoky depth. The overall texture is plush and enveloping.

About the original

Francis Kurkdjian launched OUD satin mood in May 2015 as a 70 ml eau de parfum. It followed the 2013 trio of Oud Silk Mood, Oud Cashmere Mood and Oud Velvet Mood, all variations on the house's 2012 Oud. The brand calls it a free interpretation of oud wood with a shimmering facet. An Extrait de Parfum with the same name is sold alongside the eau de parfum, and both remain in the current range.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Maison Francis Kurkdjian stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Rose lovers who want more depth than a straight floral are the natural audience. It is rich and noticeably sweet, so it will feel heavy to anyone after something light or fresh.

Is this based on the eau de parfum or the extrait?

It is based on the OUD satin mood Eau de Parfum from 2015, the original version. Maison Francis Kurkdjian also sells an Extrait de Parfum; ours is an eau de parfum, 50 or 100 ml.

Is the oud smoky?

Not especially. The oud here is smooth and woody, sitting beneath rose and vanilla amber.

How does it relate to Oud Silk Mood and Oud Cashmere Mood?

They belong to the same Mood family of oud variations, which began with Oud Silk Mood, Oud Cashmere Mood and Oud Velvet Mood in 2013. OUD satin mood followed in 2015.
