Oyedo, inspired by Diptyque Oyédo (2000)

Yuzu is what you notice first, sour and aromatic, with green mandarin adding an unripe-peel tang. Raspberry lifts the citrus and rounds it, so the effect resembles soda poured over orange sherbet, as one perfume blog put it. Thyme runs through the middle as a dry, herbal counterweight. It remains light and bubbly from start to finish.

About the original

Diptyque released Oyédo in 2000 as an eau de toilette, naming it after Edo, the old name for Tokyo, and presenting it as a tribute to Japan. The current official note list is yuzu, green mandarin, thyme and raspberry. Earlier descriptions mentioned grapefruit, lime, orange and mint, and some wearers believe raspberry arrived with a reformulation, though Diptyque has not said so.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Diptyque stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Citrus fans who find most colognes too plain should try it. It suits spring and summer daytime wear. Its sweetness is mild but real, so a bitter, bracing citrus it is not.

Slightly. Raspberry gives the citrus a sherbet-like sweetness, but yuzu and thyme stop it from becoming sugary.

Has Oyédo been reformulated?

Some wearers report a change, pointing to raspberry in the current note list that older descriptions do not mention. Diptyque has not confirmed a reformulation.
