Pomelo

Pomelo, inspired by Jo Loves Pomelo (2011)

Pomelo is the largest of the citrus fruits, related to grapefruit but milder and sweeter, and it sets the tone here. The opening is tart and zesty without the sulphurous, slightly sweaty note found in some grapefruit perfumes. Rose sits in the middle of the blend, smoothing the citrus rather than turning it floral. Vetiver, a grass root with a dry, green and slightly peppery smell, carries it into the base.

About the original

Pomelo was the debut fragrance of Jo Loves, the house Jo Malone founded in 2011 after leaving Jo Malone London; the two are separate companies. According to Jo Loves, the scent was created on Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos. It is still sold by the brand as an eau de toilette. Jo Loves later added Pomelo Oud, which is a separate fragrance.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Loves stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Citrus fans who usually find grapefruit perfumes sour or sulphurous are the natural audience. Rose and vetiver give it more structure than a plain citrus splash, though it remains fresh and uncomplicated.

Is Pomelo a Jo Malone London fragrance?

No. It is from Jo Loves, the separate house Jo Malone founded in 2011. We found no Jo Malone London cologne called Pomelo.

Is this Pomelo or Pomelo Oud?

This page is the original Pomelo, which Jo Loves sells as an eau de toilette. Pomelo Oud is a different, later Jo Loves scent.

Does it smell like grapefruit?

It is related, as pomelo is a grapefruit relative, but it is sweeter and avoids the sulphurous note of many grapefruit perfumes.
