Perseus, inspired by Parfums de Marly Perseus (2024)

Grapefruit and bergamot give a tangy, bitter-edged citrus opening. Geranium follows with its rosy, slightly minty leaf, and blackcurrant bud adds a green, tart, faintly catty note that sharpens the outline. Vetiver, an earthy grass root, carries the drydown together with amberwood and a grey amber accord. The result stays dry and refined rather than sweet.

About the original

Parfums de Marly introduced Perseus in 2024, at Saks in the US by February and at Harrods and the brand's UK boutiques from March. Launch material linked it to the invigorating fragrances that came into fashion in France under Louis XV. No perfumer has been named. The brand shelves it with its men's fragrances, though some retailers present it as unisex, and it should not be mixed up with Pegasus, a different Marly scent.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Parfums de Marly stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Spring and summer days suit it, according to one retailer's review, which treated it as an everyday scent. Clean and grown-up rather than sweet or youthful, it will suit someone who prefers a dry citrus to a sweet one; those wanting vanilla or amber warmth may find it plain.

Parfums de Marly places it in its men's collection, while some retailers describe it as unisex. Its citrus and vetiver profile is not strongly gendered.
