Rhapsody, inspired by Louis Vuitton Rhapsody (2021)

Rhapsody rests on a contrast between radiant white flowers and a dense, earthy base. Jasmine from Grasse and ylang ylang, which has a rich, banana-like floral tone, are set against patchouli so that the flowers seem to change its character. Maté, the herb behind the South American drink, adds a dry, grassy green note, and woody notes give the whole a firm structure. Louis Vuitton presented the collection as having no top, heart or base, so it unfolds as one block of scent rather than a sequence.

About the original

Rhapsody was the chypre of Les Extraits, five extraits de parfum by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud that Louis Vuitton launched on 7 October 2021. The bottles were the first perfume bottles designed by the architect Frank Gehry, who reshaped Marc Newson's original Louis Vuitton bottle. The collection was reported at a 30 per cent concentration, and the bottles can be refilled in store. Its sister scents are Cosmic Cloud, Dancing Blossom, Stellar Times and Louis Vuitton Symphony.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Louis Vuitton stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Chypre lovers will find the patchouli and woods familiar, with jasmine and ylang ylang giving the structure a radiant floral body. It is a dense, serious composition rather than a light, casual one. Patchouli is earthy and present throughout, which can put off a buyer wanting a purely floral scent.
