Sweet Morphine

Sweet Morphine, inspired by Ex Nihilo Sweet Morphine (2015)

Lilac leads, with its fresh, slightly almond-like floral smell, lifted by bergamot. Mimosa then adds a powdery, pollen-yellow fluffiness, and iris deepens the powder with a cool, rooty note. In the 2015 version the drydown is a powdery vanilla wrapped in musk, sweet but not sugary. It reads as a pastel, cosmetic floral rather than a fruity or white-flower one.

About the original

Ex Nihilo unveiled Sweet Morphine in November 2015 as its tenth fragrance, created by Nathalie Cetto. The brand said development took at least eight months and that the name reflects its addictive character. Ex Nihilo now sells My Sweetest Morphine, by the same perfumer and with a near-identical description, but its published notes differ: iris and vanilla are gone, and rose, vetiver, patchouli and solar and ozonic accords appear. This page describes the 2015 Sweet Morphine.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Ex Nihilo stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Powder lovers will feel at home with it. The brand framed it as unisex with a feminine lean, and the overall effect is gentle and cosmetic. Its powdery sweetness may seem dated or too make-up-like to a buyer who wants something green.

Not as far as the published notes show. My Sweetest Morphine is by the same perfumer and has a near-identical description, but its note list drops iris and vanilla and adds rose, vetiver, patchouli and ozonic and solar accords. Our version is inspired by the 2015 Sweet Morphine.
