Tempo, inspired by Diptyque Tempo (2018)

Patchouli is the whole subject, and Diptyque uses three extractions of it to show both its earthy and woody sides. Bergamot and pink pepper give the first minutes a lift. Violet leaf and clary sage add a green, herbal coolness, while mate, the South American tea, brings a hay-like note. The result is earthy and enveloping, with no sweetness to blunt it.

About the original

Olivier Pescheux composed Tempo, which Diptyque launched in March 2018 alongside Fleur de Peau to mark 50 years since its first fragrance, L'Eau. The patchouli comes from Givaudan's sustainable sourcing project in Indonesia. Diptyque's own page says it won a Fragrance Foundation award as best new men's fragrance, although the house sells it as unisex. It has no connection with Trussardi's Essenza del Tempo.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Diptyque stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Patchouli devotees are the obvious wearers, especially those who want the note without sugar. Its damp, soil-like depth can feel heavy to newcomers to the note.

Is Tempo a sweet patchouli?

No. Diptyque balances the patchouli with violet leaf, clary sage and mate rather than vanilla, so it stays earthy and green.

How does Tempo relate to Fleur de Peau?

Both were launched in 2018 for the 50th anniversary of Diptyque's L'Eau. They are different scents, and we make both.
