Tralala

Tralala, inspired by Penhaligon's Tralala (2014)

Tralala is theatrical from the start: aldehydes give a soapy fizz, whisky a boozy roundness, and saffron with violet leaf a green, slightly metallic edge. Leather is the thread that connects every stage. In the middle, tuberose and ylang-ylang sit beside carnation and myrrh. The drydown turns powdery with iris and heliotrope, over vetiver and vanilla.

About the original

Bertrand Duchaufour created Tralala for Penhaligon's with the fashion designers Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff, and it launched in the brand's boutiques in May 2014 as a 100 ml eau de parfum. The designers had used Penhaligon's scents at their runway shows for nine seasons, and they asked for leather to run through the composition. Press at the time called the result intense and eccentric.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Penhaligon's stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Wearers drawn to vintage-style powdery leathers will understand it straight away. Others may find the mix of aldehydes, whisky and heavy powder hard going, and its retro character is likely to divide buyers.

The top combines aldehydes and whisky, sharpened by saffron and violet leaf, with galbanum giving a green snap and ambrette a musky undertone.

Leather comes through clearly in the heart, wrapped in tuberose and carnation with ylang-ylang, while frankincense and myrrh add a resinous shadow.

The finish is powder and woods: iris and heliotrope over opoponax and musk, with cedarwood and vetiver keeping it dry and patchouli adding depth.

Is Tralala still available from Penhaligon's?

We have not been able to confirm whether Penhaligon's still produces Tralala. Our reference is the 2014 eau de parfum made with Meadham Kirchhoff.

We found no official gender targeting from Penhaligon's, so we list it as unisex.
