Shaghaf Oud

Shaghaf Oud, inspired by Swiss Arabian Shaghaf Oud (c. 2016)

Saffron opens with a dry, slightly leathery spice. Rose and oud follow, the flower softening the wood's darker, resinous tone. Praline then brings a nutty, caramelised sweetness. Vanilla carries the drydown, so the oud ends up wrapped in something closer to confectionery than to smoke.

About the original

Shaghaf Oud is the original fragrance in Swiss Arabian's Shaghaf Oud line. The line was later extended with many colour-named flankers, among them Aswad (2018), Azraq (2022), Ahmar (2023), Royale and Tonka (2023), Elixir (2024) and Marine (2026). The house also sells a concentrated oil version (Shaghaf Oud CPO). Retailers variously list it as unisex or for men; this page is the plain Shaghaf Oud, without a suffix.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Swiss Arabian stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cool weather suits it best, according to the retailers that sell it. People who love dry, austere ouds may find the praline and vanilla too sweet, and some find the saffron opening a little synthetic.

Is Shaghaf Oud sweet?

Yes. Praline and vanilla dominate the drydown, which makes it much sweeter than a traditional dry oud.
