Gabrielle
39,00 €
Olivier Polge’s 2017 luminous white floral, Chanel’s first new feminine brand in fifteen years. Jasmine, ylang, orange blossom and tuberose. Rebuilt at 40 percent perfume oil.
Coco, Before She Was Coco
Before Gabrielle Chanel became Coco, she was simply Gabrielle: a rebel, passionate and free, the woman who would later define the modern feminine wardrobe. Chanel released Gabrielle in 2017 as the house’s first entirely new feminine fragrance brand in fifteen years, composed by Olivier Polge as a luminous white floral built around an “imaginary flower” of jasmine, ylang ylang, orange blossom, and Grasse tuberose. The brief was solar, voluptuous, and unmistakably radiant. The square cut bottle, with light radiating through its ultra-thin glass walls, was designed as the visual equivalent of the perfume’s luminous floral signature. Our interpretation captures that radiant character.
How It Smells
The opening is bright and slightly fruity, grapefruit and mandarin giving juicy citrus lift with a quiet black currant adding a faintly tart edge. Within fifteen minutes the white floral heart unfolds: jasmine takes the lead with its creamy slightly indolic character, ylang ylang adds a soft exotic floral support, orange blossom contributes a quiet honeyed warmth, and Grasse tuberose threads through the composition with its creamy floral richness. The base settles on white musk and sandalwood with a soft woody quality underneath. The overall impression is solar, slightly tropical, and unmistakably feminine in the modern Chanel manner.
The Notes
Top: grapefruit, mandarin, black currant.
Heart: jasmine, ylang ylang, orange blossom, Grasse tuberose.
Base: white musk, sandalwood, woody notes.
How Our Version Compares
White floral compositions like Gabrielle reward the high concentration approach because the multiple flowers in the heart need real body to hold their distinct characters across a wearing. Our European Union production at 40 percent perfume oil concentration preserves the bouquet’s complexity, with the jasmine ylang tuberose interplay holding through the heart and the sandalwood musk base lasting on clothing into the next day.
Common Questions
How does it compare to other Chanel feminines?
Gabrielle is solar and white floral, distinct from the chypre N°19, the aldehydic N°5, the gourmand Coco Mademoiselle, or the dense Coco. It reads as the most overtly tropical of the modern Chanel feminines, designed for wearers who love white flowers.
Is tuberose strong in this?
It is present but balanced. The Grasse tuberose contributes creaminess to the heart rather than dominating the composition. If you generally avoid tuberose because of fragrances like Fracas or Carnal Flower, Gabrielle is unlikely to bother you.
What season is best?
Spring and summer especially, when the white floral character reads at its brightest. It works in autumn but reads slightly out of season in deep winter against heavy clothing.
How long does it last?
Seven to ten hours at our concentration, with the sandalwood white musk drydown lingering on clothing well beyond. The 40 percent oil approach extends the floral phase noticeably.
