Ginza

Ginza, inspired by Shiseido Ginza (2021)

Ginza opens on pomegranate, tart and fruity, sharpened by pink pepper. Three types of jasmine form the core of the heart, joined by magnolia, freesia and Japanese orchid. Hinoki, the Japanese cypress, brings a clean, resinous wood note to the base, backed by sandalwood and patchouli. Shiseido frames the whole composition as a contrast of lightness and strength, and the woods do stop the flowers from turning sugary.

About the original

Karine Dubreuil-Sereni and Maïa Lernout of Takasago composed Ginza, which Shiseido launched internationally in February 2021. The brand built its story around Japanese traditions, including the samurai code and the idea of scent as something personal and spiritual. Constance Guisset designed the bottle, a black dagger shape piercing pink juice. Shiseido has since added flankers such as Ginza Intense, and an earlier, separate release called The Ginza also exists; this page refers to the original Ginza eau de parfum.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Shiseido stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Someone who likes jasmine but finds classic white florals heady should look at this one, because cypress and sandalwood give it a cooler frame. Pink pepper and patchouli also give it more edge than a purely pretty bouquet. A wearer looking for gourmand sweetness will not find it here.

What does hinoki smell like?

Hinoki is Japanese cypress. It smells clean, resinous and woody, a little like freshly cut timber.

Is Shiseido Ginza sweet?

Only lightly at the start, from the pomegranate. Jasmine and woods keep it balanced rather than sugary.
