Sensuous, inspired by Estée Lauder Sensuous (2008)

Sensuous opens with flowers, but they are pale and translucent, there mostly to soften the woods that follow. Before long the scent becomes a blend of sandalwood and amber, sweetened by white honey and edged with pepper. Ylang-ylang adds a faint tropical richness in the middle. Estée Lauder itself talks of molten woods, and that is a fair summary: smooth and glowing rather than dry.

About the original

Sensuous launched in 2008, and Annie Buzantian is credited as its perfumer. It went on to spawn two flankers, Sensuous Noir in 2010 and Sensuous Nude in 2011. According to fragrance references, the original was off the market for a period before being reintroduced. It is currently sold by Estée Lauder in the US and UK, where it appears among the Classic Collections.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Estée Lauder stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Cooler weather suits it best, when the honey and amber feel most comfortable. It is a quiet, intimate scent rather than a loud floral. The sweetness is moderate, but the honey can read slightly sticky to some noses.

Is Estée Lauder Sensuous discontinued?

No. Estée Lauder currently sells it in the US and UK. Fragrance references note it was off the market for a while before being reintroduced.

How does Sensuous differ from Sensuous Noir and Sensuous Nude?

Sensuous is the original honeyed woody amber. Noir (2010) is darker and spicier, with pine and patchouli, while Nude (2011) adds coconut and musk. We make all three.

Is it a floral?

Only at the start. Lily, jasmine and magnolia appear first, but the scent is classed as woody and spends most of its time on sandalwood, amber and honey.
