Black pepper and rose make a spiced, rosy start that sets aside any expectation of pure dessert. Magnolia follows, lemony and petal-like. Underneath, the vanilla is rich and ambery, given structure by patchouli and cedarwood. Wood rather than sugar rounds off its sweetness.

About the original

Splendid Vanilla belongs to the Roberto Cavalli Gold Collection, the house's ultra-premium line, which also includes Divine Oud, Noble Woods, Sublime Tonka and Tobaccomore. Databases date it to 2019, though no dated press release has surfaced. It is a 100 ml eau de parfum in a dark bottle with a gold monogram, and no perfumer is documented. The collection is not gendered, and Interparfums has kept it in the range since taking over the licence in 2023.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Roberto Cavalli stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Vanilla is the point here, but a grown-up one, more amber than cake. Retailers suggest it for romantic evenings and for daytime alike. Its density makes it a poor match for anyone after a sheer, airy vanilla.
