Vanilla Skin, inspired by Phlur Vanilla Skin (2024)

Vanilla Skin starts with a fizz of pink pepper against apple and crystallised sugar, a combination that reads like caramelised fruit skin. Within minutes the sweetness gathers around lily and jasmine petals, which add a clean, milky floral tone without turning it into a bouquet. Cashmere wood, a smooth synthetic wood note with a fuzzy, musky feel, carries it into the base. There, vanilla and benzoin (a resin with a toffee-like, balsamic smell) settle over sandalwood and a thread of agarwood.

About the original

Phlur first released Vanilla Skin in 2023 as a hair and body mist, and that mist went viral online. The eau de parfum followed on 23 June 2024 with the same notes, positioned by Phlur as a more concentrated version of the mist. The perfumer is usually credited as Clément Gavarry. Phlur itself sells it without a gender label, while a major retailer places it in women's fragrance, and it is now sold in Europe as well as in the US.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Phlur stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Anyone who likes a plainly sweet vanilla will recognise the territory, here with sugar and fruit on top. It feels cosy and sweet throughout. A dry, smoky or boozy vanilla it is not, so look elsewhere for that.

Lily and jasmine petals sit in the heart beside cashmere wood, so the middle stage feels floral but muted, wrapped in a fuzzy woody musk.

Benzoin and vanilla dominate the drydown, with sandalwood and agarwood giving the sweetness a faintly woody floor.

Is this based on the Vanilla Skin body mist or the eau de parfum?

The reference is Phlur's 2024 eau de parfum. Phlur lists the same notes for the 2023 hair and body mist, so the scent profile is shared.

How sweet is Vanilla Skin?

Clearly sweet. Sugar crystals open it and vanilla with benzoin closes it, so it sits firmly in gourmand territory.

Phlur does not assign a gender. A major retailer files it under women's fragrance, which is how we list it too.
