Black, inspired by Roberto Cavalli Black (2006)

The start is herbal and spicy-green: coriander seed, tarragon with its faint aniseed tone, and a bamboo note that reads like cut stalks. Lavender then gives the classic fougère core, sharpened by white pepper and a rosy geranium. In the base, tonka bean lends a smooth, hay-and-almond sweetness that cedar keeps dry. Musk holds everything close at the finish.

About the original

Olivier Cresp created Black for Roberto Cavalli in 2006 as a men's fragrance, often described as an oriental fougère (a lavender and tonka structure with a richer, spicier base). Many unrelated perfumes share the name, from Bvlgari Black to Kenneth Cole Black, so it is worth checking the house before buying. It is not on Roberto Cavalli's current perfume page, and reports say it was withdrawn some years ago.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Roberto Cavalli stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Polished aromatics, not sweet or aquatic ones, are its territory, and it is usually worn on evenings in the cooler months. The lavender and pepper give it a traditional, groomed edge that may feel formal to anyone wanting something casual.

Roberto Cavalli Black for men from 2006, by Olivier Cresp. It is not Bvlgari Black, Black XS or Black Opium.

Is Roberto Cavalli Black discontinued?

It no longer appears in the brand's men's offering and is reported as withdrawn, though we have not seen an official statement.

Is it sweet?

Only mildly. Tonka gives the base some sweetness, but lavender, pepper and cedar keep it dry.

Is Roberto Cavalli Black coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Roberto Cavalli that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
