Vetyver

Vetyver, inspired by Jo Malone London Vetyver Cologne (1995)

Orange gives it a zesty start, quickly met by tarragon, a herb with a faintly aniseed, green bite, and by the dry spice of nutmeg. Vetiver is the backbone, grassy and rooty, and it stays clean rather than smoky. The overall effect is crisp and aromatic, in the manner of a traditional cologne.

About the original

Vetyver, spelled with a y, was among Jo Malone's early colognes and is generally dated to 1995. It no longer appears in Jo Malone London's UK or US ranges or its online Archive Collection, and it has been reported as discontinued by perfume fans since at least 2014. It is a separate fragrance from Vetiver & Golden Vanilla, from Black Vetyver Café and from Givenchy Vetyver.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Classic cologne wearers, the kind who reach for citrus and herbs over sweetness, will find it straightforward. With no vanilla, amber or musk listed, it may feel spare to a buyer after a rounded, cosy finish.

It is no longer listed in Jo Malone London's UK or US ranges or its Archive Collection, and perfume fans have reported it gone since at least 2014.

Is this the same as Vetiver & Golden Vanilla?

No. That is a 2020 Cologne Intense with bourbon vanilla. Vetyver is the 1995 cologne with orange, nutmeg and tarragon, and we make versions of both.

Is it related to Black Vetyver Café?

No. Black Vetyver Café is a separate Jo Malone London fragrance, which we also make.

Is Jo Malone London Vetyver coming back?

So far, we have found no announcement from Jo Malone London that it will return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
