Vintage Gardenia

Vintage Gardenia, inspired by Jo Malone London Vintage Gardenia Cologne (2004)

Gardenia opens it, but tuberose takes over within minutes and leads the floral part. What follows is less about flowers than texture: sandalwood and myrrh become as prominent as the blossoms, while cardamom and incense add a subdued, dusty spice. Myrrh, a resin, contributes a slightly bitter, balsamic shade. The result is a smooth, gently sweet white floral with a resinous core.

About the original

Jo Malone released Vintage Gardenia in 2004. Whether it was meant as a limited edition or a permanent cologne is not documented. The brand brought it back in its online Archive Collection in 2021, but it does not appear on Jo Malone London's current cologne or Archive Collection pages. The brand's later Gardenia & Oud Absolu is a different fragrance.

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

White-floral fans who find gardenia or tuberose too sugary on their own may like the resinous counterweight here. Tuberose is still prominent, though, which matters to anyone who avoids that note.

No. Gardenia & Oud Absolu is a later, separate Jo Malone London fragrance.

Is it a sweet white floral?

Lightly. Sandalwood and myrrh keep it smooth and resinous rather than sugary.

Jo Malone London brought it back once, in its online Archive Collection in 2021, but it does not appear on the current cologne or Archive Collection pages. We have found no announcement of another return. Our version is an eau de parfum in 50 ml or 100 ml.
