Dior Homme 2020, inspired by Dior Homme Eau de Toilette (2020)

Cedar does most of the work here. Dior pairs a bold Atlas cedar accord with Haitian vetiver, a grassy, earthy root note, and threads a spicy accord between them. The brand describes the woods as both smooth and raw, which fits: the cedar is dry and pencil-shaving clean, while the vetiver adds a rougher texture. Compared with the earlier Dior Homme it is less powdery and more plainly woody.

About the original

Dior released this Eau de Toilette in 2020 as a new Dior Homme, replacing the iris-centred formula that had carried the name since 2005. That earlier version did not disappear; Dior now sells it as Dior Homme Original. Robert Pattinson fronted the campaign. Fragrance databases credit François Demachy, though Dior's product page does not name a perfumer.

Who it suits

A man who already wears dry woods and vetiver will recognise the style at once. It reads polished and restrained, with little sweetness. Fans of the iris in Dior Homme Original may find this version plainer.

The 2020 Eau de Toilette is led by cedar and vetiver. Dior Homme Original is the older iris-centred formula, which Dior still sells under that name.
