Safari, inspired by Ralph Lauren Safari for Men (1992)

Bergamot and lemon open it alongside eucalyptus and tarragon, an anise-scented herb that gives the citrus a cool, green bite. The heart is herbal and spiced: rosemary, lavender, geranium and clove. As it settles, vetiver and oakmoss bring an earthy, slightly damp-forest tone. Patchouli and leather give the drydown a rugged, outdoorsy character.

About the original

Ralph Lauren launched Safari for Men in 1992 as the men's counterpart to Safari (1990). The idea behind it was a safari lifestyle of adventure and freedom. Its bottle is a cut-glass flask with a silver-plated cap and faux tortoiseshell inlay. Older listings give a different pyramid with aldehydes and rose, so the formula may have changed over time, but the official notes are those described here.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Ralph Lauren stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of old-school aromatic scents and mossy, leathery bases will recognise its style. Eucalyptus and clove give it a medicinal, spicy edge, and the oakmoss and leather may feel dated to those who mostly wear modern fresh scents.
