Arso, inspired by Profumum Roma Arso (2010)

Pine resin is the star here, realistic enough to recall sap oozing from bark, and sweeter and stickier than a plain conifer note. Incense lays a light, even smoke over it. Leather sits in the middle, and cedar keeps the base dry and woody. The overall picture is of a fire burning in a timber room, never heavy or sooty.

About the original

Profumum Roma gives 2010 as the year of Arso, though at least one database lists 2011. The brand places it in its Fumosa, or smoky, family and describes a winter chalet with a fire in the hearth, snow outside and leather armchairs. The official pyramid lists cedarwood, leather, incense and pine resin, while the notes table on the same page gives cedar leaves instead of cedarwood. It is still sold by the brand.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Profumum Roma stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Its natural home is autumn and winter. The opening can smell sticky, almost like burnt sugar, which some people find unpleasant before the woods and smoke settle.
