Rouge Trafalgar, inspired by Dior Rouge Trafalgar (2020)

Red fruit leads from the first spray. Raspberry brings a tart, almost sherbet-like fizz, and blackcurrant leaf adds a green, pungent tang that stops the berries going jammy. Patchouli and musks sit underneath, keeping the sweetness see-through. As it dries, the fruit fades into a light, clean patchouli.

About the original

Dior links the scent to the red looks Christian Dior placed at the centre of his fashion shows, and presents the scent as a bold, sensual floral fruity. It joined La Collection Privée Christian Dior around 2020 and is usually credited to François Demachy; the date comes from reviews rather than Dior launch material. An Esprit de Parfum version was added later and a scented soap also exists, but the Eau de Parfum is the reference here.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Dior stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Playful and colourful, it reads lighter than its red name suggests. Its sweetness is real but translucent, so it works for people who like fruity scents without dessert notes. The tart opening may feel too tangy for someone after a plush, jammy berry.

Raspberry opens tart and slightly fizzy, with blackcurrant leaf giving a green, tangy edge. Some descriptions also mention strawberry and mandarin.

The heart is more fruit than flower: berries over a light floral sweetness, with violet leaf named in some readings of Dior's text.

In the drydown patchouli and musks remain, clean and sheer, with a faint woody trace.

Is Rouge Trafalgar very sweet?
