Incense & Embers, inspired by Jo Malone London Incense & Embers Home Candle (2014)

The mood here is smoke and timber. Silver fir gives a resinous, conifer edge at the start, and leather follows with a dry, slightly tanned feel. Vetiver, a grass root with an earthy, almost damp-soil character, holds the base. One reviewer said the candle strongly evokes an old church.

About the original

Incense & Embers appeared in January 2014 as one of four candles in Just Like Sunday, a collection Jo Malone London created with the stylist Charlotte Stockdale. Its companions were Lavender & Lovage, Green Tomato Leaf and Sweet Almond & Macaroon. Every source we found describes it as a home candle, and none mentions a cologne or other skin version. It is easily mixed up with Incense & Cedrat, a separate Jo Malone cologne, which we also make.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lovers of incense and dark woods will recognise the territory straight away. It is dry, deep and earthy, with leather adding a slightly rough texture. Buyers hoping for a fresh or sweet scent will find nothing of that kind here.

Notes: Silver Fir, Leather, Vetiver

Coniferous notes come first: silver fir, resinous and cool, with a smoky cast that sets the tone.

Leather moves in underneath, dry and a little animalic, while vetiver grounds everything in an earthy, rooty base. Some descriptions of the candle also mention amber, which would add a faint glow at the end.

Is Incense & Embers a perfume or a candle?

The Jo Malone London original is documented as a scented candle. Our product is a wearable perfume inspired by that scent profile.

Is this the same as Incense & Cedrat?

No. Incense & Cedrat is a different Jo Malone cologne with a citrus side, and it has its own page in our store.

Does Jo Malone London still make the Incense & Embers candle?

We have not been able to confirm whether the brand still produces it.
