Orange Blossom, inspired by Jo Malone London Orange Blossom Cologne (2003)

Clementine flower gives the top a sparkling, faintly fruity lift, and orange blossom follows with its honeyed, slightly soapy whiteness. Water lily and white lilac thin the bouquet out with a cool, watery freshness. Orris, the dried root of the iris, brings a powdery note to the base, and balsamic vetiver keeps it grounded.

About the original

Orange Blossom has been in Jo Malone London's cologne range for many years; fragrance databases date it to around 2003, though we have not confirmed that from the brand. The house describes it as a shimmering garden oasis. It is sold alongside a candle, diffuser and body lotion in the same scent and, like all the brand's colognes, presented as unisex. Orange Bitters, the seasonal Christmas citrus, is a separate fragrance.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Jo Malone London stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Lightness is its main quality, so it works for someone who finds heavy white florals such as tuberose overwhelming. The orris finish is powdery, which some wearers find old-fashioned, but the powder stays airy.

Does Orange Blossom smell of oranges?

Only faintly. Clementine flower adds a fruity edge at the start, but this is a white floral led by orange flowers rather than a citrus.

Is it the same as Orange Bitters?

No. Orange Bitters is a seasonal citrus with prune and amber; Orange Blossom is the permanent floral cologne.
