Eau De Citron Noir Unisex, inspired by Hermès Eau de Citron Noir (2018)

Black lemon is a lime dried until its skin turns dark, a staple of Middle Eastern cooking, and it smells sour and faintly smoky. Here it replaces the usual sparkle of a cologne with something deeper and more savoury. Black tea adds a tannic dryness. Guaiac, a resinous wood with a natural smoky facet, sets the whole thing on a woody base.

About the original

Christine Nagel launched Eau de Citron Noir in March 2018 as part of the Hermès Colognes collection. Hermès describes it as hesperidic and woody (citrus and wood, in perfumery terms), pairing lemon with black tea and smoky guaiac. The house lists it among gifts for men, yet presents the Colognes line as beyond gender.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Hermès stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Somewhere between a fresh cologne and a woody scent, it works for people who find standard lemon colognes too simple. Once the top settles, the smoky dryness of tea and guaiac takes over, so a buyer after a crisp, sparkling lemon may be disappointed.

What is black lemon?

A whole lime dried until it darkens, used in Middle Eastern cooking. In perfume it gives a sour, smoky citrus rather than a zesty one.

How is it different from Eau d'Orange Verte?

Orange Verte is a classic green citrus cologne with mint and moss. Citron Noir is darker, with tea and smoky guaiac in place of the mint.
