Riri, inspired by Rihanna RiRi (2015)

The rum absolute is what sets it apart, a boozy, faintly caramelised note running under the passion fruit, cassis and mandarin. As the fruit eases off, honeysuckle and orange blossom take over with jasmine and freesia, forming a nectar-like white floral heart. Vanilla and musk make up most of the base, with sandalwood giving it a little body.

About the original

Parlux announced RiRi in August 2015, and it reached Macy's, Stage and Perfumania that September after being unveiled during New York Fashion Week. It came as an eau de parfum in several sizes plus a rollerball, and launch copy positioned it as feminine and flirty. It is easily mixed up with the later flanker RiRi Kiss and with Rihanna's earlier scents such as Reb'l Fleur, Rogue and Nude.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Rihanna stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Sweetness is the main thing to know about it: vanilla dominates once the fruit settles, after the rum has added its boozy warmth to the opening. That makes it a natural pick for fans of playful fruity florals, though it may cloy for someone wanting a dry or green perfume.

The rum absolute gives a soft boozy note in the opening, blended with passion fruit and blackcurrant. It comes across as sweet rather than sharp.
