Odeur 53 arrived in 1998 as Comme des Garcons' most provocative launch, an anti-perfume built around the smell of inanimate objects and atmospheric phenomena rather than flowers or fruit. The brief listed fifty-three smells to combine, among them the flash of metal, fresh air of the high mountains, sand dunes, cellulose and washing drying in the wind.
