Uomo?, inspired by Moschino Uomo? (1998)

Kumquat gives the top a tart, peel-like citrus, and coriander seed adds a dry, faintly spicy lift alongside rosewood. Cyclamen, a watery, rosy floral, sits in the heart with cinnamon leaves, which smell greener and less sugary than cinnamon bark. Clary sage and labdanum, a resin with a leathery, ambery depth, give that middle some body. The finish is cedar, artemisia and musk, laundered and a touch powdery in the way many masculines of the period were.

About the original

Moschino released Uomo? in 1998, according to retailer and database listings, though some sources give 1997. The name translates as 'Man?', and the question mark is part of the title. The composition is usually credited to Olivier Cresp. Officially the house files it under fruity, floral and ambery, while fragrance databases call it a woody floral musk. It remains in Moschino's range as an eau de toilette and is a different scent from Moschino Pour Homme.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Moschino stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Men who like aromatic, freshly laundered scents with a spiced edge will find it easy to wear. Its listed accords are aromatic, citrus, woody and musky, with nothing gourmand among them. The musky, soapy base reads as distinctly 1990s, which some buyers may find dated.

Kumquat and coriander open it, with new hedione (a molecule with an airy, jasmine-like transparency) and rosewood adding a light woody note.

Cyclamen and cinnamon leaves form the centre, held in place by clary sage and the resinous depth of cistus labdanum.

Cedarwood, artemisia (wormwood, herbal and slightly bitter), amber woods, a solar accord and musk make up the base, where the powdery character settles.

Does Moschino Uomo? smell sweet?
