The Noir 29, inspired by Le Labo Thé Noir 29 (2015)

The tea in Thé Noir 29 is the dried leaf, not a sweetened cup. Bergamot, fig and bay leaves give the top a green, aromatic freshness. At the centre, a black tea extraction brings a leafy, hay-like texture that slides towards tobacco as it settles. Cedar, vetiver and musk then provide depth beneath the leaves.

About the original

Frank Voelkl of Firmenich composed Thé Noir 29 for Le Labo, which released it in November 2015. The launch text describes a constant swing between the light of bergamot, fig and bay and the depth of cedar, vetiver and musk. Le Labo presents it as a tribute to the tea leaf and the craft around it, and keeps it in the Classic Collection.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Le Labo stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Tea lovers expecting something light and fresh will find this dry, leafy and herbal instead. Bay leaf and vetiver give it an aromatic side that some find too herbal.

This is Thé Noir 29 (2015), built on black tea with fig and bay. Thé Matcha 26 is a different Le Labo tea scent, which we also make.

Does it smell of tobacco?

Tobacco is not one of the listed notes, but the launch description says the black tea extraction gives a tobacco feeling in the drydown.
