Kelly Caleche, inspired by Hermès Kelly Calèche (2007)

Leather here is a background texture, never the headline. Rose and mimosa, a fluffy yellow blossom with a powdery scent, sit at the front, and vetiver, a grassy root, keeps the composition dry. The overall effect is light and transparent. Jean-Claude Ellena described it as leather and flowers 'as light as an angel's wing'.

About the original

Jean-Claude Ellena, then in-house perfumer at Hermès, created Kelly Calèche in 2007. The name joins two Hermès emblems, the Kelly bag and the calèche, a horse-drawn carriage, and Philippe Mouquet's bottle borrows a carriage-lantern shape and the Kelly bag's turn-lock. An eau de parfum followed in 2009, rosier and creamier in character. Kelly Calèche is unrelated to Calèche, the Hermès floral from 1961.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Hermès stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Spring mornings and office days are where perfume editors place the eau de toilette. The leather is subtle and the florals powdery, so a wearer wanting a bold, smoky leather will find it too restrained.

Which Kelly Calèche is the reference?

The original Kelly Calèche eau de toilette from 2007. Hermès also sells a 2009 eau de parfum, which is rosier and creamier. Our own version is an eau de parfum, in 50 ml or 100 ml.

Is Kelly Calèche the same as Calèche?

No. Calèche is an earlier Hermès fragrance from 1961; Kelly Calèche is a 2007 floral leather by Jean-Claude Ellena.

How strong is the leather?

Fairly discreet. It reads as a smooth backdrop to rose and mimosa rather than a smoky or animalic leather.
