Wood On Fire, inspired by Montale Wood On Fire (2021)

Smoke is the first thing you notice: incense curling around dry cedarwood, with lemon briefly brightening the top. In the heart, oud joins vetiver, and sandalwood smooths the edges as the scent turns darker and earthier. Oud, also called agarwood, is a resinous wood with a deep, slightly medicinal character. Toward the base the smoke eases into something sweeter, while labdanum, a sticky resin from the rockrose shrub, adds a leathery depth.

About the original

Retailer copy says Pierre Montale created Wood On Fire after a trip to Saudi Arabia, and fragrance references place it around 2021. Montale files it under its Oriental scents and describes it with images of embers and ritual smoke. It is in the brand's official catalogue in 2026.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Montale stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Smoke and oud are the backbone, so it rewards people who already enjoy incense and dark woods. A light, airy scent it is not, and the toffee and vanilla add more sweetness than the name suggests.
