Noir, inspired by Tom Ford Noir (2012)

Noir is built in two parts, which the brand describes as a refined surface over a more sensual base. The top is brisk and aromatic, with bergamot, verbena and caraway joined by pink and black pepper. Iris and violet flower bring a cool, powdery tone to the middle, lined with rose and geranium. Underneath, opoponax (a sweet form of myrrh) builds a resinous depth with amber and vanilla, while a touch of civet gives an animal shading.

About the original

Announced in July 2012, Noir was a new men's fragrance for the Signature collection, sold as an eau de parfum. Noir Extreme and Noir pour Femme came later, and the older Private Blend Noir de Noir is an unrelated scent despite the similar name. The full note list comes from launch coverage; Tom Ford's current UK page summarises it as amber with cardamom and sandalwood.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Tom Ford stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Powdery iris and resinous amber give it a dressed, slightly old-school polish. It leans spicy and rich rather than fresh, and the civet and opoponax add an animalic undertone that not everyone enjoys.

The opening is aromatic and peppery, with bergamot and verbena giving lift and caraway a savoury, seed-like tone.

In the heart, iris and violet flower turn it powdery, while rose and geranium add a faintly green floral layer, with nutmeg and clary sage keeping it herbal.

The base pairs amber and opoponax with vanilla, set on patchouli and vetiver, and civet adds a faint animalic depth.

This page is inspired by the original Noir Eau de Parfum from 2012. Noir Extreme, Noir Extreme Parfum and the Private Blend Noir de Noir are different fragrances, and we make each of them separately.

Is Tom Ford Noir sweet?

Moderately. Vanilla and amber sit in the base, but iris, pepper and herbs keep it spiced and powdery rather than sugary.
