Reflection Man

Reflection Man, inspired by Amouage Reflection Man (2007)

Rosemary and red pepper berries give Reflection Man a crisp, herbal start, sharpened by bitter orange leaf, the green and slightly twiggy material perfumers call petitgrain. Within minutes the flowers take over. Neroli and jasmine sit at the centre, orris adds a dry, lipstick-like powder and ylang-ylang rounds it out. The base of sandalwood, cedar, vetiver and patchouli is soft and creamy rather than dark.

About the original

Amouage released Reflection Man in 2007, composed by Lucas Sieuzac. The house classifies it as a fougère with amber, though its heart is openly floral and powdery. Reflection Woman is its counterpart, and Reflection 45 Man is a separate, more concentrated extrait sold alongside it.

Our version

Ours is an independent eau de parfum made to evoke the same character. It is not Amouage stock, not an official relaunch and not the original formula.

Who it suits

Men who are comfortable with a floral, powdery heart are the natural audience. The overall effect is clean and refined, and reviewers tie it to work and formal wear. Its powdery floral heart is the sticking point, since it can seem too delicate to someone after an obviously rugged scent.

Rosemary leads, aromatic and slightly camphorous. Red pepper berries and bitter orange leaf sit beside it, giving the top a peppery, green edge.

Neroli opens the heart with a clean orange-flower note before jasmine fills it out. Orris brings dryness and powder, and ylang-ylang gives the flowers a rounder, faintly sweet body.

Sandalwood, cedar, vetiver and patchouli form a soft base. One reviewer likened this stage to expensive shaving cream.

This page is based on Reflection Man, the eau de parfum from 2007. Reflection 45 Man is a separate extrait that Amouage sells alongside it.

Is Reflection Man too floral for a men's fragrance?

The heart is openly floral, with neroli, jasmine and orris. The rosemary opening and woody base keep it masculine in a groomed way, but it is not a rugged scent.
